B.Sc. Eng. (Hons) Electronic Engineer, Hobbyist and Private Pilot

Education

I attended Pinetown Boys High School, Durban, South Africa (www.pbhs.co.za). I achieved an overall 'A' aggregate in my final school exams with 'A' aggregates in the following subjects:

  • Physical Science

  • Mathematics

  • Advanced Mathematics

  • Electronics

  • Technical Drawing

I attended the University of Natal, Durban from 1992 – 1995 (www.ukzn.ac.za) and studied Electronic Engineering. At the start of my university career I applied for and was awarded a full study bursary (tuition, residence and books) by Eskom - the South African parastatal electricity supply company. During my 4 years of study I performed vacation training at Eskom's then newest coal fired power station (Majuba Power Station) which was still under construction at the time.

During my university career I achieved the following prizes and awards:

  • Dean's Commendation – First year, First semester
  • Certificate of Merit – Electronic Design, Final Year, First Semester
  • Highly Commended – Final Year Design Project.

Final year subject choices:

  • Control Systems (1 semester)
  • RF Engineering (2 semesters)
  • Microwave Systems (2 semesters)

I graduated Cum Laude with an honours degree.

My Bursary contract required that I work for Eskom for 4 years after graduation. However, by the time I graduated, there had been a change in Government in South Africa, and owing to the recently introduced policy of Affirmative Action (applying to racial quotas) imposed on Eskom by the Government, I was relieved of my contractual obligations.

I was then offered a job by Grintek Comms, which I accepted.
